In our jobs, relationships, friendships, and the rest of our lives, we often wonder what we are getting ‘out of them’.
John F. Kennedy said, “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country”. This is an extremely powerful question. It can be used for any area of your life, and in fact it can be used with regard to your whole life. Victor Frankl said, “Ask not what you can expect of life – ask what life expects of you.”
Regardless of what area of your life you are asking about, the most important thing is your level of contribution.
A good example of this is employment. Many people wonder what their job will provide for them, before they decide what they can provide their employer. If you look carefully at the people you know, I am sure you will see that those who provide their employers with the most also receive the most.
Isn’t this also true of physical fitness? By nature we make demands on our bodies everyday and expect them to be met. How much does each of us give back to our bodies? What do you eat? How much exercise do you do?
This will work in all areas of your life. In fact, I believe that Isaac Newton may have made a small error because over the long haul you will get far more than you put into each area of your life. In other words, for every positive action you take, there is an equal or greater reward at sometime in the future!
